About Us

Being and Becoming Occupational Therapy was created to offer a supportive, respectful and neuroaffirming space for children, teenagers and their families.

The service is grounded in the belief that young people thrive when they feel understood, accepted and supported to participate in everyday life in ways that align with who they are.

We take a collaborative, values-led approach — partnering with families to support confidence, wellbeing and meaningful participation across home, school and community environments.

Meet Maddy

Hi, I’m Maddy — the Occupational Therapist behind Being and Becoming OT.

I’m a neurodivergent Occupational Therapist with over 10 years’ experience working in paediatrics across education, early intervention, mental health and NDIS settings.

My approach to Occupational Therapy is shaped by both professional experience and lived understanding. I value working alongside young people and their families to better understand what matters to them, what feels challenging, and what support might look like in their everyday lives.

I’m passionate about supporting children and teenagers to build confidence, develop a strong sense of self, and feel supported to navigate the world in ways that feel authentic and sustainable.

What Guides Our Work

Our values guide how we show up, how we build relationships, and how we support children, teenagers and their families. They shape every interaction and help ensure our work remains respectful, collaborative and aligned with what matters most to the people we support.

    Connection

Strong, respectful and trusting relationships are at the heart of everything we do. We prioritise creating spaces where children and families feel safe, heard and genuinely supported.

Why Families Choose Being and Becoming

Families often choose Being and Becoming Occupational Therapy because of the way we approach support. Our work is grounded in neuroaffirming, strengths-based practice that respects each child’s identity and recognises difference as a natural part of being human. We focus on understanding the whole child, rather than trying to change who they are.

We place strong value on collaboration and relationship-building, working closely with children, teenagers and their families to ensure support feels aligned, respectful and meaningful. By listening carefully and valuing lived experience, we aim to create a shared understanding of what support might look like in everyday life.

Our flexible service model allows support to take place in real-world environments such as the home, school and community. This helps ensure strategies and supports are practical, relevant and connected to a child’s daily routines, relationships and experiences.

Above all, we strive to offer a calm, thoughtful and relationship-led service where children and families feel safe, supported and understood from the very first interaction.
