Being and Becoming OT was created to offer something different — a space where people feel genuinely understood, accepted and supported to participate in life in ways that align with who they are.
We work from a neuroaffirming, strengths-based framework. That means we don't try to change who you are. We start from your strengths, listen to what matters most, and build support around your everyday life — not a program designed for someone else.
A values-led, neuroaffirming approach
Hi, I'm Maddy — the occupational therapist behind Being and Becoming OT.
I'm a neurodivergent OT with over 10 years' experience across paediatrics, early intervention, mental health and NDIS settings. My approach is shaped by both professional training and lived understanding of what it means to navigate the world as a neurodivergent person.
I work alongside children, young people and adults — not to fix or change them, but to understand what matters, what feels hard, and what support might look like in their everyday lives.
Being and Becoming OT is a small, growing practice. Every therapist who works here shares the same neuroaffirming, strengths-based values — and the same commitment to support that genuinely fits the person.
Support that focuses on everyday life
Occupational therapy at Being and Becoming OT focuses on the things that make up everyday life — at home, at school, at work and in the community. Support is shaped around what matters most to you, and may include:

Funding & Access
Support is accessible in a number of ways. No referral is needed to make an enquiry or start a conversation.

We welcome NDIS participants managing their own funding or working with a plan manager.

We accept Enhanced Primary Health Care Plans referred through your GP.

Rebates may be available depending on your fund and level of cover — check directly with your provider.

You're welcome to access support privately, without insurance or a funded plan.
If you're accessing support through NDIS or Medicare, relevant documentation may be required before commencing services.

Occupational therapy helps people understand themselves and navigate everyday life in ways that feel manageable, meaningful and aligned with who they are.
When we talk about 'occupations', we mean any activity you do in your day — the things you need, want or are expected to do. Getting ready in the morning, managing routines, connecting with others, participating in school or work, or simply doing the things that bring you joy.
Our role is to understand what matters to you, what feels challenging, and what support might look like in your everyday life — and to work alongside you to make those things feel more manageable.

No — you don’t need a formal diagnosis to get started.
Many people reach out while they are exploring or questioning their experiences, or when everyday life is feeling difficult without a clear reason why.
We can begin with a conversation to understand what’s going on and whether support might be helpful.

We support children, young people and adults across different stages of life.
This includes individuals navigating challenges with routines, emotional regulation, participation, identity, burnout or everyday life demands.
We also offer supervision and workshops for clinicians, families, schools and organisations.

Sessions are flexible and designed to fit your life.
They can take place at home, school or childcare, in the community, online via telehealth, or at the BCP Hub in Warners Bay.
We support families across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland and Port Stephens.

The best place to start is a free discovery call — a relaxed 20-minute conversation by phone or video where we can talk through what's going on and whether this feels like the right fit.
There's no paperwork, no pressure and no expectation to have everything figured out. Just a conversation.
