FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

About Occupational Therapy and our approach

What does a neuroaffirming approach mean?

1

A neuroaffirming approach recognises that all neurotypes are valid and that difference is a natural part of being human. Rather than trying to change or “fix” a child, we focus on understanding how they experience the world and supporting them to participate in everyday life in ways that feel meaningful, respectful and aligned with who they are.

What ages do you support?

We primarily support children and teenagers, generally between the ages of 4 and 18. There is some flexibility depending on individual circumstances, so if you’re unsure whether this service may be suitable, you’re welcome to reach out and ask.

2

What kinds of things can Occupational Therapy support with?

3

Support is guided by the child or teenager and their family, and shaped around what matters most to them. This may include support with participation in everyday activities, routines, wellbeing, emotional awareness, confidence or navigating daily life across home, school and community environments.

About Occupational Therapy and our approach

Where do sessions take place?

4

Sessions may take place in environments that are familiar and meaningful to the child or teenager. This can include the home, school or childcare, community settings, and limited clinic-based sessions at the BCP Hub in Warners Bay.

We currently support families across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and Port Stephens.

What areas do you service?

You do not need a referral to make an enquiry or begin a conversation. If you are accessing support through Medicare or NDIS, specific documentation may be required prior to commencing services.

Getting started

What happens after I submit an enquiry?

10

Once you submit an enquiry, we’ll review the information provided and be in touch to talk through your child’s needs and next steps. Making an enquiry does not commit you to services — it’s simply a way to start a conversation.

Do you offer online bookings?

Online bookings may be introduced in the future. At present, all services begin with an discovery call which can be booked online to ensure the support offered is appropriate and aligned with your needs.

11

Absolutely. It’s very common to feel unsure when exploring support. You’re welcome to get in touch, ask questions and talk things through before deciding whether to proceed.

I’m not sure if this is the right fit — can I still contact you?
